No Room For Hippies At All

This is an original copyrighted song by local singer songwriter Dennis Kaylor, a frequent performer at the Coffee House

Wer'e poets and singers and dreamers of dreams
Driftin' through life down its rivers and streams
Tryin' to make sense in a world that makes no sense at all
"The times they are a changin'" or so I've been told
And I'd change with the times but I'm just too dang old
So I'm standin' here scared with my back against the wall
The worlds getting smaller there's no room for hippies at all

Somewhere between Woodstack and Viet Nam
I woke to discover the man that I am
Ain't quite the same person I always though I would be
So I tried compromisin' wore green for a while
Singin' "Give peace a chance" in non-military style
A peace symbol next to my dog tags as I recall
Lookin' back those were good times now there's no room for hippies at all

You won't find too many free spirits around
We just couldn't adapt so we've gone underground
To Berkeley Bob's Coffee House waitin' for the next shoe to fall
And Bob's one of us got a sympathetic ear
His pickin' and grinnin' helps turn back the years
To a time when we numbered in thousands and stood tall and proud
Now we're fadin' out fast and there's no room for hippies at all
